Tips for Traveling Abroad with a New Mate

You’ve recently met a person on Match.com and have really hit it off. The two of you enjoy each others company and look forward to seeing each other after each visit. Things seem to be going well for the relationship, so you decide to kick it up a notch by inviting them on a trip across international lines. If the two of you agree to skip town and land in a foreign country together, then you need to make sure everything is planned out accordingly. Use the following tips to help straighten everything out before you get on the plane.

Make Sure Your Passports Are Up-to-Date

If you don’t already have a passport, you need to head to the post office or other local government agency to get one. The process takes a few weeks, so this will need to be done well in advance. Make sure your mate does the same. If the two of you have traveled before and already own one, then you need to ensure it won’t expire while you’re away on your travels. The last thing you need is for one or both of you to become stranded in a foreign country because you forgot to check the expiration date on your passports.

Create an Itinerary

This is a must, so you know where you’re going throughout your stay. What hotels will you sleep in, what attractions will you visit and which restaurants will you eat at? Will your hotel room have a full kitchen, so you can buy groceries and cook? This is a great way to save money if so. Make sure to do your research about the area you plan to stay in to ensure it’s a good one. You can learn a lot by reading the reviews of other travelers that have stayed in a particular hotel.

Figure Out How You Will Travel

Are you going to rent a car while you’re on vacation? If so, make sure you know the local driving laws. Some countries drive on the opposite side of the road, which can be very confusing for tourists. On the other hand, if you’re not going to rent a car, then you need to find out how you’ll get around. Are there buses and taxis you can take? Or do you have to walk, bike or boat everywhere? This is important to know so you don’t end up stuck anywhere.

Learn the Currency Exchange

Your American dollars may be worth more or less, depending on the country you’re traveling to. It’s recommended that you become acquainted with the currency exchange for the country you’re going t be staying in. It’s a good idea to have some converted as soon as you arrive, if the vendors don’t normally accept USD. Also, find out if there are any ATMs around the hotel, so you can access money to shop in places that don’t accept credit cards.

Your stay in another country should be memorable in a good way. Do all the planning in advance to ensure that it is!
